Hoe vaak moet je een legionella beheersplan actualiseren?

How often do you need to update a Legionella management plan?

A Legionella management plan is not a document that can remain unchanged for years after completion. The Drinking Water Legislation requires the plan to be up-to-date and complete. This means that the manager is responsible for regularly updating both the risk analysis and the management measures.

In practice, a management plan is updated when there are changes to the installation. This includes renovations, extensions, the removal or addition of taps, or adjustments to domestic hot water production. As soon as the installation no longer matches the description in the plan, an update is necessary.

Deviations during management activities are also a reason to revise the plan. For example, if structurally deviating temperatures are measured, prolonged stagnation occurs, or a Legionella exceedance is detected, the risk analysis must be re-evaluated. In some cases, additional sampling is mandatory, especially at priority locations.

For new installations, it is advisable to evaluate the management plan within 3 months of commissioning. The actual use of taps may deviate from the original estimate. This is an important moment to adjust management measures and prevent potential risks.

In short: a Legionella management plan must be updated as soon as the installation changes, when deviations occur, or when new insights make it necessary. An up-to-date plan is essential to manage risks and comply with legal obligations.
